Warri Ovoke Visits Emede, Calls for Calm Following Recent Unrest

The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Hon. (Comr.) Warri Ovoke Friday, has reassured residents of Emede and surrounding communities of the government's commitment to restoring and sustaining peace following recent disturbances involving youths and security agencies.

During a visit to the affected areas, where several properties were reportedly damaged, the council chairman urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while efforts continue to strengthen security and promote reconciliation within the community.

Warri Ovoke, accompanied by the traditional ruler of Emede Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Johnson Egbo, Ewhiri II, security officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders, toured locations impacted by the unrest to assess the situation firsthand and sympathize with affected families.

The delegation also engaged residents and community leaders in discussions aimed at identifying practical solutions to prevent future conflicts and ensure lasting peace in the area.

Speaking during the visit, the council chairman emphasized that peace, unity, and cooperation among residents remain critical to the development and progress of Emede and the wider Isoko South Local Government Area.

As part of measures introduced to restore normalcy, the Isoko South Local Government Council had earlier imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Emede, restricting the movement of persons and vehicles between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Warri assured residents that security agencies remain on the ground and that the local government is closely monitoring developments to prevent any breakdown of law and order. He further called on community members to cooperate with security operatives and report suspicious activities that could threaten the peace of the area.

According to the chairman, Emede is currently calm, and authorities are committed to ensuring that peace is maintained for the safety and well-being of all residents.

The visit has been welcomed by many residents as a demonstration of the government's concern for the community and its determination to address the challenges arising from the recent unrest.
